Mad About Madeline

You know how there was something about Mary? Well that's how I feel about Madeline Weinrib - there's just something about this painter and designer.  Her designs make a room, well, happy.  She's the granddaughter of ABC Carpet & Home founder Max Weinrib and her massive atelier is conveniently located on the 6th floor of that building, or you can check out her website here and you will see what I mean. Or another really weird thing I like to do is a google image search of whatever I'm obsessed with and browse pictures blissfully (the virtual world is my cave).  Here's what a google image search of Madeline Weinrib looks like - kinda makes you wanna keep clicking.  Cyber hypnotism.com, seriously.

Then, because I'm in a kinda of moody blues mood today (and thinking about blue as a color theme in one of my rooms but not really sure yet) here are the pieces I am coveting from the atelier:

The rug is absolutely awesome - it's called Light Blue Mums and it comes in a bunch of sizes - look at all your options, and the atelier's amazing custom services can even size for you if you're willing to wait a few weeks!  And don't even get me started on the chairs below. . .

Available in a multitude of amazing fabrics - delicious array of fabric rolls to choose from - Blue Luce is my favorite:

And then all the fabulous pillows to brighten up any couch whether it be a vintage find, custom, or store bought - the pillows just give it that Office Space FLAIR:

Sorry can't resist - you know you want to see it again.  I guess not all flair is good. But it's a good word and I'm going to use it a lot.

Just take a look at how a Madeline Weinrib rug does so much for this otherwise simple room.  The rug is the flair, clearly.

Now for the part I could never quite find online - how much?  A simple 4x6 at the atelier was costing around $400.  Not bad, but you know I always divulge my secrets.  Back to A - back to when sharing is cool and bargain hunting is considered a fine art.  If you go across the street to ABC Rugs, walk to the middle of the ground floor and you will see the bargain basement section - a secret little staircase that leads you into an ABC wonderland - - and yes, 100s of Madeline Weinrib carpets starting at. . . $150.  You may not get the selection you will get across the street, but then again you might just secure the find of the century - and giant pillows at $100 (originally $600).  It's pretty empty in terms of people / salesmen down there, but that allowed me to blissfully lay out my favorites:

Pictures were taken on my iphone (obviously) and emails asking for opinions were sent out to my usual set of tastemakers (you know who you are) and while I can be a moody blue, let's get real.  I think you know which one I ultimately went with, right? Wait and see. . . and truthfully, aren't you madly madly in love with Madeline Weinrib? And convinced that not subscribing to Back to A's email updates (yes took me the better part of this day to figure out that tricky little widget thank you feedblitz.com) is going to leave you stranded in some kind of middle of the range M level purgatory forever?

Your effort reminds me of the parable of the stone cutter. It may take many blows which make no indentation in the stone. But it is the last one that breaks it open, all the previous blows contributing to the final result. Keep going, you'll reach your final destination.

Thank you, Anonymous. It's one of my favorite parables; I know it well.

Ecclesiastes 5:19 NLT "And it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life - that is indeed a gift from God." "People who do this rarely look with sorrow on the past, for God has given them reasons for joy."
