It might be a perfect movie - funny, quirky, and poignant - but poignant without being sappy, and just so very, very New York. Please Give standouts Rebecca Hall, Elizabeth Keener, Amanda Peet, and Oliver Platt deliver knockout performances. But the real star is writer and director Nicole Holofcener because it's been a long time since I've been moved to look up a screenwriter, and I'm glad I did - this interview with Holofcener is a terrific read.
Here's Richard Roeper's review and some additional priceless clips from the movie - he thinks it's "one of the best films about New Yorkers since Woody Allen was in his prime." That's a bold statement, but I agree. I would go further and say it's better.
Best of all, if Back to A was a movie, this would be it. If you see it, you'll know what I mean. . .what a perfect Sunday activity, and whether you're 7 or 70 you might love it a lot. Get back to the movies - especially if you haven't gone in awhile. Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and go to Loews Cinema once in awhile, you could miss a pretty amazing two hours.
